#SameOrDifferent: Hawk-Eye vs Falcon-Eye vs Blue Tiger-Eye Stone

Wednesday, June 1, 2022

This is our series: Same or Different. Something we all know from comparing the grass on this side of the river to the grass on the other side but this time it's more stoned.

Yes, Geneva Watches & Wonders 2022: Rolex presents a Falcon Eye-Stone dial. WOW, WOW, WOW! You are seriously surprised and not only you. What kind of stone is this and why you never heard of it before and no other watch brand used it for any of its dials before? Well, maybe the reason is that it is usually referred to as Hawk-Eye, the quartz stone. And also Blue Tiger-Eye is a name used for it here and there -- these three mean the exactly the same stone: Beautiful and amazing in intense sunlight but subtle, decend and somewhat neutral in less light.

By the way, we have some Piaget that make use of this magnificent stone for their magic dials. These are vintage watches, since Piaget uses stones since the 1960s -- the undisputed Masters of Stone. So, the foremost reason Rolex lately surprised by presenting a Hawk Eye- / Falcon Eye- / Blue Tiger Eye-dial Yacht Master is, they used the least known name for the dial.
