What was the reason Andy Warhol -- a watch-collector and -lover (-freak?) -- fell in love with Piaget about the Piaget Beta21 ref15101 "Black Tie" aka "Andy Warhol"? Was it the shape? Probably. Was it the five stepped case? Probably not, as it was not yet in production when he first saw it as a three-stepped version. Was it the impressive sweeping hand and the audible humming of the Beta21-movement? Why not. Or was it the ever-changing dial color: black -- anthracite -- purple -- blue or anything in between; morpho-dial? Probably, yes. Or was it the twelve unique indexes carefully cut and brushed / polished to achieve a parallax- / depth-effect on a rather thin dial? We dont know for sure, but I is very plausible that this combination of various un-definable colors and the visual depth-effect impressed the artist the most.
The picture shows the Warhol-Piaget under different light-conditions -- always the same watch.
