AP Cobra: Genta Design
Audemars Piguet Cobra: Genta Design, JPE Integrated-Bracelet & K2120
- Time (Hour, Minute)
Excellent condition from the year 1969 according to our books: A rare yellowgold AP Cobra, presumably designed by Gerald Genta approx 3 years prior the Royal Oak, with the popular cal2120 & an integrated JP Ecoffey milanaise-bracelet -- simply the best of both worlds. The best automatic movement, based on the JLC Ebauche cal920, meets the best bracelet maker in a yellowgold case and with a golden dial with applied indexes. Simply the most sought after combination with outstanding attributes: unity of case and bracelet and obviously the design language of the young Gerald Genta (1969) with a tone-in-tone dial and hand-finished surface, that reflects light in at least 50 shades of gold. 13 applied hours indexes and the gold aged to butter-colour give this characteristic watch the extra spritz and the fact it is not only in excellent condition but as well unpolished make it a very rare gem.
The watch wraps around the wrist and the domed glass integrates so perfectly to the bracelet-watch and allows a height of just 6mm -- inclusive the legendary and popular K2120 automatic caliber, that three years later was used in the first Royal Oak ref5402, too.
The watch is probably unpolished, all textures, the hand-hammered finishing, serial numbers and hallmarks are deep and sharp. The movement is working precise and reliable after our service. The bracelet is in fantastic and rarely worn condition, shows no warp, stretch or defects and fits a >190mm wrist.
Ad 1: The AP reference 5384 was priced 65% higher than the exquisite positioned ref5402 Royal Oak in the 1973 AP catalogue.
