Sector-Dial Disco-Volante: Rare AP Flying Saucer

Audemars Piguet Cross-Hair Flying Saucer: Ultra-Thin Disco-Volante, Rare UFO

CHF 7,000

WHY WE LOVE IT: Because this beautiful & ultra-thin reference 5143 is a true sought-after AP-Classic -- and especially in whitegold and this condition: rare.

Made in 1960 or 1961 according to our books and research and still in amazing condition. The ultra-thin AP cal2003 (movement-serial #78'XXX) is almost without marks and was serviced right now -- making it a reliable and precise engine. It was back then the best of the thinnest by AP: the ref5143 (as the ref5093) was priced (USD920) more than 60% higher than the price of a similar AP with the thicker cal2001 (USD570, see last photo) -- a fine example the horological advancement and miniaturization is the most important complication and premium-priced in the beginning.

The dial of this overall excellent preserved example is probably refreshed and reprinted but in very good condition. And the excellent designed case of the ref5143 is probably unpolished, shows the clear and deep hallmark and serial number, and has crisp and defined edges throughout and sharp elevated indexes on the bezel.

The beauty is further enhanced by our choice of the custom-made high quality straps -- ultrathin and without eye-disturbing stitches, of course -- in anthracite and sand-colour (linen) and the original 18K AP-buckle on the other side of it. And of course by the elongated AP presentation box and its outer cardboard box.
