TwoTone Luxury Sportwatch: JLC cal906 Chronometer Royal

Jaeger LeCoultre Chronometer Royal: Master Mariner, cal906

WHY WE LOVE IT? It is the last Chronometer by JLC powered by a (back-then) new sophisticated automatic caliber to counter the attack of electronic-movements -- a horological relevant watch.

Made in 1973 or 1974 by JLC and not just a rare bird but probably close to a piece unique in this unpolished and sharp condition with the golden bracelet. We serviced the cal906 and we present the watch with a dark-blue fitting strap on a 18K solid-gold JLC buckle for flexible wearing.

The relevance of the watch: We outlined in our blog the JLC ref24001 is the blueprint for the Vacheron Constantin ref42001 -- presented two years before but coming in same dimensions and similar shape and utilizing the same movement and hands and dial design.

Interestingly, Vacheron Constantin didnt join the C.E.H. for development of the first Swiss quartz-movement Beta21 and was setting on mechanical movements until the 1980s -- presenting the JLC cal906 aka VC cal1096 Chronometre Royal instead.

#SameOrDifferent: VC ref42001 vs JLC ref24001
